The news in Japan focuses on a few topics: 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, an increase in tourists, and working women and/or getting women back into the workforce. A recent “humorous” Twitter exchange is the reason why I’m writing this piece. Not “humorous” as in “OMG! I’m screaming rn! LMFAO!!!1!” But more along the lines of, “I laugh only because I’ve run out of options.” Here’s the Tweet that started it all:
In Month 8 we headed Down Under and had lots of fun in the sun in Brisbane and Gold Coast. A post shared by Tokyo Mama Baby Drama (@iambabykaiju) on Sep 22, 2017 at 5:11am PDT Our last full day in Brisbane was memorable only because little Kaiju had terrible teething pains. And her “kaiju” nickname certainly suits her more and more each day. She’s a destructive, sassy whirlwind! I’m amazed at all the little and big things she can do. Here’s 8 baby milestones she’s accomplished:
Since I’ve made my decision to focus on writing full-time, I have encountered many bumps on this road of WAHM life. I wonder if I’m making the right choice. I’m taking about deadlines, obstacles, and haters and how they’re all pushing and pulling me in different directions.
Month 7 with Baby – My Toothless Wonder Well, well, well… At 7 months old, my little kaiju is inching her way towards the one year mark! It seems like every day she picks up a new skill- there’s no limit to what she can do! Month 7 with baby was full of accomplishment and frustrations from both of us.
It’s official- I’m focusing all of my energy (what remains after dealing with a baby all day) to jump-start my career as a freelance writer. How did I come to this decision? When I found out my due date was in February, I was ecstatic. The timing was absolutely perfect.
During World Breastfeeding Week, I did a three part post on Instagram to follow up this post I wrote around the time baby was three months old. This post is an updated version to that Instagram post.
Half Birthday – Celebrating 6 Months of Life Together The half-birthday (ハーフバースディ, ha-fu ba-sudei) is not exclusive to Japan. It’s also big the West and you may see half birthday parties or photo shoots on Pintrest or Instagram.
Month 6 with Baby – Month 6 with Baby – WTF Am I Being Punished? The first week of month 6 with baby coincided with our return to Japan. Since we’ve returned, she’s been in kaiju mode nearly everyday. Maybe it’s the jet-lag or coming back to an extremely humid place, I don’t know.
Date with Baby – Kasai Rinkai Park, Ikspiari, and Disney Resort Line After a period of adjustment back to life in Japan, baby and I went on a half-day date. Out trip, by bus and train, took us around Edogawa in Tokyo and Maihama in Chiba. We visited Kasai Rinkai Park, then headed to Ikspiari, a Disney themed shopping mall. Finally, we rode the Disney Resort Line (Disney monorail) to Tokyo Disney Sea before heading home.
International Marriage – My Husband is Japanese I thought I should title this post “Why I Married a Japanese Man” just because it’s a clickbait-y title. Being Japanese, that is something about my husband that he can’t control. I didn’t seek out a Japanese husband, and I would have married him if he were American, Korean, Egyptian, whatever. It sounds so “post racial,” but it’s true. I imagine people would want to know why I married a Japanese guy or there must be people out there wondering how they too could marry a Japanese guy, or could a relationship with a Japanese man and black American woman work.
