Month 2 with Baby – I Think I Know What I’m Doing

Baby now weighs 5.2kg and is 55.9cm! It’s surreal that all she drinks is breast milk and still she’s grown so much! Two months in, our daily routine has become stabilized, so much that I don’t need to rely on a clock at times. I always know when it’s 9:30am or 4:30pm because that’s when we go for our walks, and that’s exactly when she becomes fussy.

Baby  loves going for her walks in the stroller, and I love being out of the house. It’s spring, the cherry blossoms are beautiful, and the sun feels so good on my face. Plus, 7 times out of 10 she will sleep for the entire 45-60 minute walk AND sleep for another hour or two once we’re back in the house. It’s a great opportunity for me to shower, prep lunch and dinner, do chores, watch Netflix, or simply sit on the sofa and do nothing at all.

Baby also sleeps wonderfully at night! I give her a bath and have her wrapped up in her Swaddle Me by 7:30. From 7:30-9pm, she’s a light sleeper (it’s also around the time her father comes home), but from 10pm she will sleep until 2 or 3am! Then it’s time for a diaper change and quick feed and back to sleep until 7 or 7:30.

I’m also amazed at how she’s gaining control of her body. She loves to move her head from side to side.  She has greater control over her arm and leg movements and has come to suck her fingers or fist.

She’s not a fan of tummy time, but she can push off with her legs and hold up her head as well. She’ll be crawling and terrorizing Kokuto in no time!

On a personal note, in this second month, I have become much more confident in raising my daughter. Whereas in the first month I was very emotional (to say it very nicely), in these past four weeks, I’ve felt a lightening in my chest. I smile and laugh more. The last time I talked to my mother-in-law, even she commented on how cheery I sounded.

In addition, I’m getting oh-so-close to my pre-baby weight, my waist has slimmed down significantly, and hello nursing boobs! I have a bit of a tummy, but it’s nothing that some ab exercises can’t fix. Honestly, I can’t wait for summer!

I’m only mentioning the positive things… There are downsides to ~motherhood~ that make me wish I’d gotten another dog instead. I mean, I still want another Shiba (this time, a white one named “Hakuto”). For now, I’ll have to make do with one shiba and one baby.

When baby is in her signature “kaiju mode,” it literally makes me want to pull my hair out, throw things, or scream! This happens especially on rainy days when I can’t take her out on our dog walks.  She does calm down after I play music, or when I give up and put her in the Ergo Baby.

I’m still admittedly jealous of my husband who gets to be free all day and sometimes sleeps in a separate room if he has to get up super early for work the following day. I’d also like more alone time with him,  just to catch up and be a couple.

I’m itching to get back to work, but I’m also using this time to plan a side-business. Still, it is honestly annoying when I am writing a blog or writing up lesson plans for my future English school, and the baby begins to cry.

But, once she calms down, she’ll sniffle a bit then nurse. Then she looks up at me and smiles! She has no teeth so it just tickles me. Seeing her gums and how her eyes become crescents. Her smile is contagious, I love it. In fact, forget why I was even upset- until she starts crying again!
